Scarasta Rivulets

Open and exposed to the wild and windy Atlantic, Traigh Scarasta is renowned for huge waves breaking on its orange sands. The waves are also unpredictable and we quickly practiced the sport of “Dodge Wave”, always on the look-out for the next big breaker to threaten man-and-gear!. Even so, this was my favourite beach of our few October days on Harris, with drama and compositions a plenty. The orange sand seemed to glow with the dark and broody sky and dark silhouette of Ceapabhal on the horizon .
