Scarasta Gold

Open and exposed to the wild and windy Atlantic, Traigh Scarasta is renowned for huge waves breaking on its orange sands. The waves are also unpredictable and we quickly practiced the sport of “Dodge Wave”, always on the look-out for the next big breaker to threaten man-and-gear!. Even so, this was my favourite beach of our few October days on Harris, with drama and compositions a plenty. On our second visit, we had one of the rare breaks in the weather allowing for a brief few minutes, the last light of a sunset to flood over the top of Ceapabhal sitting ominously on the horizon .
